Who ?

This is the story of a boy named Wouter Paesen. He was born 12th of april 1981 in Neerpelt. Very soon after that he developed an interest in everything related to electricity. His first experience with 220V mains power was very shocking when pluggin a knitting needle into a mains power plug.

During the years he learned to be more careful;, using tools rather than his fingers to test his theories. Afther his 6th birthday he gained interest in computing. The schneider cpc 64 was a very interesting machine back in the years, providing good insight into the realm of the programming language called basic. Very soon he lost interest in computer games and was busy taming the power of the little cpu with 64KB of RAM.

Years went by, and Wouter also developed a strong interest in electronics. While other kids in the neighbourhood read comic books like ‘Suske en Wiske’ or ‘Jommeke’, he tried to find out what the funny drawings in his father’s collection of electronics magazines really meant. Gradually he understood more and more of them, until the thought striked him that this might the key to the fundamentals of the future (now modern) society.

More years went by while Wouter studied at the ‘Technisch Instituut Sint-Jozef, Overpelt’. And he was introduced to a lot of science subjects that explained his earlier mentioned experiences. In the 3rd grade (being the motivated person as he still is now) he studied electronics by day, while taking evening courses in computer science.

While his main interest was focused on technical stuff, he didn’t forget the importance of community and joined the (then pristine) students council. A lot of projects where realised during that period, both technical and social. His biggest and most important project however was his (then) girlfriend Ilse, which consumed a lot of time. But Wouter didn’t really mind. In fact he rather enjoyed it.

After high school, Wouter decided to improve his technical knowledge and started his studies for his (Professional) MsC degree at the ‘Katholieke Hogeschool Limburg’ . During that period he also stumbled into the ever evolving world of ‘Free and Open Source Software’. After 4 years of hard labour, like investigating large quantities of apples for his masters thesis, and of course some good student-like leisure time he got his Electronics and ICT engineering degree cum laude.

He was now ready to conquer the world. With the most beautifull woman of the world by his side and his techincal knowledge, this would surely not be a hard problem to tackle.

He started as a research engineer at the ‘Katholieke Hogeschool Limburg’, continuing the work he did for his master thesis in the HOBU project. Because conquering the world could surely not be managed by working a single day time job, he also started tutoring Electricity and Electronics to night school students.

Very soon the research project finished, but Wouter, still determined in his quest found a job as a consultant at ‘Kangaroot Linux Solutions’.

During his years at Kangaroot he also made progress in his most important project in life: his girlfriend became his wife.

After three years of hard labour at the Kangaroot offices, it was time for a new step in the process of world domination. Wouter joined the
engineering department of Stakebrand B.V. where he works on the driving technology behind
the finest of automated theaters.
